We have spent a lot of time at the ranch lately. A few of the goats that we had gotten had been exposed to a buck and then a few of them had been bought from a guy who just picked some up at auction and you never know if they have been exposed. So we have a few of these running around
There are a few more pictures that Doug has sent to me, but I am having troubles loading them on here. We all got to watch the second goat to give birth have its babies. It was neat to see. We have a better success rate with the kids if we are around so we have been hanging out there. I am not sure how many we are up to but I believe that we are more girls than boys which is good for herd building.
Doug has done some welding and Shaun was eager to check out what was happening
Jay got a hair cut and this is what happened.
Jayden's class was making an ice castle. This was the start of it. Each lass added about the same amount.
Doug and I were doing something in this barn with the goats. And the kids found a pulley and we hear 'hey mom and dad look at this' They had attached a hook to Jayden's coat and then they had him climb the fence and then they would let him 'fly' down.
Shaun's turn
Keisha up next
Elyssa
Taylor tried but was a little too big
We are still going in 4H and we had to catch this steer. So we caught DJ Moo again. And he is getting better. Taylor was able to feed him some oats on her hands, so we are getting closer for trying to get her to lead him around. 4H is a big commitment. Taylor has been to a judging competition and she was the top junior in her club and came 7th overall for juniors. Then there has been a speech and Taylor is the top junior in her club and that means that we have to go on to the areas which is next weekend. She is really enjoying it and learning a lot. Elyssa is pretty excited that she is coming up to being 9 so she can go into it.
We are in the process of getting a new table. I have not wanted to get rid of the one that we have because it was my grandmothers but it is not aging well and we are using it lots. It is just a veneer table and I tried refinishing it almost 2 years ago but it is warping badly. So I found some plans on pinterest and showed them to Doug. He got to get a tool to help him make it for his birthday and we are going to get a new table. It is going to have benches on both sides but we are starting with the table. Here is the work in progress. This was yesterday afternoon and he went down to work on it today.
And to leave off a funny story:
Doug and I were in the nursery and castrating the little boy goats. I would pick one up and put it in the hay feeder so that we could have access to it. We finished one and then I said Ok who is next (the goats really seem like they listen to you). And Taylor blurts out "Shaun you are up next". What she was talking about was lifting kids on the pulley, not castrating. It was really funny and we all had a good laugh.
